Preheat your oven to 400 degrees F. Line a large rimmed baking sheet with foil. Place a cookie rack on top of the foil if you have one. Arrange the bacon on top of the cookie rack, trying not to overlap the bacon.
Cook the bacon for 20 minutes. Remove the bacon from the oven and brush the maple syrup on the bacon. Cook for another 3 minutes. Remove the bacon from the over again and flip the bacon. Brush more maple syrup onto the bacon. Cook for an additional 3-5 minutes, until the bacon is cooked to your preferred doneness. Remove from the oven and set aside.
To make the BBQ Sauce:
Combine all the ingredients in a sauce pan over medium heat. Allow the sauce to come to a gentle boil. Reduce the temperature so the BBQ sauce can simmer.
Allow the BBQ sauce to simmer for a minimum of 30 minutes. Longer if you can.
Transfer the sauce to a mason jar to cool completely before storing in the fridge for up to 1 week.
Cook your burgers on the grilled. Toast up those buns before slathering a generous portion of BBQ on them, then add the cooked burger and top with the candied maple bacon. Add any additional toppings you choose.
Tip: The bacon can be made in advance then reheated before serving. 30 seconds in the microwave should do the trick.
