#98 – Chocolate Cream Cheese Fruit Dip

Where do I begin about this Chocolate Cream Cheese Fruit Dip? Yum? Every year my children’s babysitter from when they were young hosts an Easter Egg Hunt in her back yard Easter weekend. Her backyard is filled with thousands, yes, thousands of plastic eggs. It’s one of the best sights I’ve ever seen. The kids all have to wait for everyone to arrive, baskets are handed out and on the count of 3 the kids are released! It takes 2 adults about an hour to “hide” all those eggs and about 5 minutes for the 15-20 kids to collect them all.

My teenage son is a little old for it now, so he just comes for the food but my daughter is still young enough to enjoy the thrill of running around the yard filling her basket with the brightly coloured eggs. The joy on the children’s faces is contagious and I can’t help but feel their joy.

Many years ago I brought cinnamon buns to the egg hunt. They were still warm and ooey gooey with cream cheese icing. Well, let’s just say I’m reminded months in advance about the egg hunt and asked if I’m bringing my cinnamon buns again. Message received loud and clear. HA! I’m flattered.

This year I think I’m going to switch it up a bit. I’m still going to bring my cinnamon buns but I’m also going to bring a second dish. I just have too many delicious recipes I’d love people to try so I can get feedback on. Let’s be honest, I could prepare the entire buffet and enjoy every single minute. I love having people sample my dishes so I can get their reactions and know if there’s flavor combos that really work or things that need to be switched up.

This Chocolate Cream Cheese Fruit Dip is one of the candidates up as my second dish. Right along with my fudge topped Easter brownies, Easter fudge, Rainbow Cookies and Easter Eggs Nests. Not to mention any other of my favorite party appetizers. I could host a weekly dinner and never get tired of trying out new recipes or entertaining friends and family.

This Chocolate Cream Cheese Fruit Dip is so light and fluffy with a delicious chocolate flavor that’s not overwhelmed by the cream cheese. It’s not overly sweet but if you’re looking for something a little sweeter you can add more icing sugar if you like. After my daughter finished her fruit, she grabbed a spoon and ate her portion of leftover dip like pudding. It’s that good!

Chocolate Cream Cheese Fruit Dip

Ingredients

  • 1 (8oz) pkg cream cheese, room temperature
  • ½ cup icing sugar
  • ¼ cup cocoa powder
  • 1 cup whipping cream

Instructions

  1. Place the soften cream cheese in a bowl and whip for a few minutes to soften up the cheese.
  2. Add in the icing sugar and cocoa powder and on low speed, incorporate it into the cream cheese. Gradually increase the speed until well combined. Remember to scrape down the sides as you work.
  3. Add the whipping cream and whip at high speed until light and fluffy.
  4. Refrigerate for at least an hour for the dip to firm up a bit. Serve along side fresh fruit.

  1. That Easter egg hunt sounds incredible and this dip sounds like a really yummy treat to have alongside some healthy fruit.

  2. I’ve been told I’m not allowed to come to neighborhood parties unless I bring this dip! It’s always a big hit. I usually serve it with strawberries and pineapple, but it’s good with other fruit, such as apples and melon.
